Training and Information Sessions

Volunteer Training

CASA training classes are offered six times a year—January, March, May, July, September, and October. A class normally consists of approximately 30 hours of class work, observation of court hearings, and at-home work. Classes in 2020 are scheduled for:

  • Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 5-8pm, January 14 - February 6 + Saturday, February 1 from 9am - 3pm

  • Online learning with in-person training once a week on Thursdays from 9am - Noon, March 5 - 26 + Saturday, March 21 from 9am - 3 pm

  • Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 5-8pm, May 5 - 28 + Saturday, May 16 from 9am-3pm 

  • Online learning with in-person training once a week on Thursdays from 9am - Noon, July 9-30 + Saturday, July 25 from 9am - 3 pm

  • Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 5-8pm, September 28 - October 1 + Saturday, September 26 from 9am-3pm 

  • Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 5-8pm,October 22 - November 17 + Saturday, November 14 from 9am-3pm 

Sessions are fun and interactive, and you will learn everything you need to know to get started as a CASA Volunteer. Upon successful completion of the CASA training, you will be sworn in by a family court judge in a special ceremony.

 Our training curriculum includes:

  • Introducing the Law, the Child Protection System, and the Courts
  • Developing Cultural Competence
  • Understanding Families
  • Understanding Children
  • Communicating as a CASA
  • Practicing the CASA Volunteer Role – Gathering Information
  • Practicing the CASA Volunteer Role – Reporting & Monitoring
  • Pulling it All Together
