Mom Always Says 2025

A mother is someone we all have, but not everyone’s experience with motherhood is the same. What we all have, though, are stories. Stories of how we were raised. How we’re learning to parent ourselves. How we’ve mothered others in unexpected ways. Stories full of laughter, pain, transformation, and truth. That’s what makes storytelling so powerful — and so necessary.
That’s what Mom Always Says is all about. A live storytelling event that explores the many dimensions of motherhood: the funny, the heartbreaking, the joyful, the complex. Whether you’re a mom, have a mom, miss your mom, or are still figuring it all out, you belong in the room.
Friday, May 9 | 7:00–9:00 p.m.
Social Hall at Fountain Street Church, Grand Rapids, MI

We’re thrilled to welcome this year’s inspiring lineup of storytellers:
Each story is a window into the real, raw, beautiful complexity of motherhood. You’ll laugh. You might cry. You’ll definitely leave inspired.
Best of all, every ticket supports CASA of Kent County, ensuring that children in the foster care system have a consistent, caring adult to advocate for them.
And thanks to Fountain Street Church underwriting the event, we will be donating proceeds from the event to support CASA.
Bring your mom. Bring your friend. Bring a date.
This is a perfect Mother’s Day gift — full of meaning, memory, and community.
We’re telling stories to help change the stories of children who need us most.
Come be part of it.

For Heart of CASA, the annual fundraising dinner and award ceremony, the CASA team decided to take the opportunity of having the CASA community gathered to feature some of the Humans of CASA – in person. Thus, this year’s theme was born: Meet the humans. Feel the heart.
A month or so ago, I was reminded in the sweetest way of how lasting a CASA’s impact can be. While I was meeting with a prospective board member at a local coffee shop, a woman approached me and said, “We’ve never met, but my son, Peter, remembers you. He had a CASA — Miss Cindy.”
Hope is not a strategy—or so I’ve been told more than once.
