Heart of CASA 2024: Wonder
What a wonder-filled night! On October 10, 2024, the CASA community gathered at The High Five GR for the annual Heart of CASA dinner.
For 35 years, local accounting firm EHTC has devoted its annual golf outing, Chipping for Chairty, to raising money for community organizations. Our staff and board of directors were ecstatic when CASA of Kent County selected as the company’s official charity partner for 2023.
On June 27, CASA staff, board members, and friends joined EHTC and its guests for a fun day at Scott Lake Golf & Practice Center. Golfers spent the early morning mingling, learning about CASA’s mission, and preparing for the big day ahead. Soon after, the shotgun start signaled the beginning of the 18-hole scramble. CASA staff enjoyed greeting golfers at the 9th hole, providing more information, and answering questions. It was an excellent way to spread the word about CASA’s mission and work to hundreds of guests!
The event ended with a casual reception and cookout dinner. The winners of the outing, raffle baskets, and special contests were announced, and EHTC representatives presented CASA staff and board members with their total gift for the event: $22,000! In CASA executive director Stephanie Sheler’s words, “EHTC is building a strong legacy in the community, and CASA was honored to be part of that in 2023. We appreciated this opportunity to tell others about CASA’s mission, and we are so thankful for the funds donated by EHTC, their sponsors, and all of the golfers!”

CASA of Kent County recently hosted special volunteer training with the Padnos/Sarosik Center for Civil Discourse of Grand Valley State University. The session, called “Navigating Challenging Conversations,” was all about learning ways to have productive dialogue—even when emotions are high.
CASA of Kent County has welcomed some new faces to the board of directors, and we’d like to introduce them!
