Drugs 101: Myths, Trends, and Opportunities to Intervene
Because substance abuse affects many families involved in the child welfare system, CASA of Kent County is thrilled to partner with Corewell Health and Warner Norcross Judd to provide a community learning opportunity on substance abuse. Registration is required to attend. In-person and virtual tickets are available.
This lecture provides an overview of commonly used substances (i.e. drugs) within the West Michigan community as well as new and emerging substances in the national market. The lecture will describe historic and modern trends of substance use, bust common myths, and discuss ways to address the drug epidemic through harm reduction and evidence based medicine. Upon completion, learners will be provided and trained on naloxone (Narcan) administration and be empowered to respond to the opioid crisis in their communities.
This presentation is brought to you by Dr. Colleen Lane, MD and Daniel Wicklund, DNPc, RN who have worked to address substance use treatment through the development of a Rapid Access Clinic for substance use treatment across West Michigan.
