Betsy Greer: Human of CASA

by | Jul 22, 2025 | Spotlight

Betsy Greer is a woman who is guided by love and grounded in purpose. As a devoted wife and proud mother of two grown sons, family has always been the center of her world. She lights up when she talks about her three guys and the unique journeys they’ve each taken to forge their own paths. Watching them chase their dreams has been one of her greatest joys—and it’s also reminded her of the dreams she once held close to her own heart.

For as long as she can remember, Betsy felt a deep pull toward fostering children. But she also knew this wasn’t a decision she could make alone. It was a calling that required unity at home, and with different perspectives and timing never quite aligning, she lovingly pressed pause on that part of her dream. Still, the desire to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable children never faded—it simply waited, reshaping itself along the way.

Today, through her work with CASA of Kent County, Betsy has found a new way forward. As a Court Appointed Special Advocate, she channels her empathy and determination into being a steady voice for children in foster care. Betsy always leads with her heart, fully jumping into things. Knowing that she can sometimes get in over her head, she appreciates the boundaries that CASA provides. “CASA has built-in restrictions,” she says, “that help me not to overstep in situations. The safeguards that are in place are full of common sense and full of compassion. It’s protection for all involved.”

The path of a CASA volunteer hasn’t been easy. Betsy is candid about the emotional weight of the work, from navigating complex relationships with foster families to writing court reports that capture the truth of a child’s experience. Yet even in the hard moments, she finds meaning. She cherishes the joy of simply spending time with the kids on her case, laughing, connecting, and showing up consistently.

In the end, Betsy’s dream didn’t disappear—it evolved. And by forging her own way toward it, she’s discovered a powerful truth: sometimes, the path we take may look different than we imagined, but the destination can be even more impactful than we dreamed.
