Amanda Witte: Human of CASA

Life rarely moves in a straight line. For Amanda Witte, the journey from where she started to where she is now has been anything but linear. “Nothing in life is ever a straight path,” she says. Getting from Point A to Point B isn’t always what you expect.
Amanda grew up in Port Huron, the oldest of three siblings, certain she would become a teacher. But life had other plans. “I discovered along the way that I didn’t enjoy lesson planning,” she laughs. That small revelation set her on a more winding course.
College became a season of exploration. Amanda admits she wished she had asked more questions—like many young people, she was navigating without a clear map. But one thing was always steady: she wanted to do work that mattered, that helped people.
That desire led her to social work, beginning with a foster care agency. The work was challenging but deeply meaningful. Later, she discovered Kent School Services Network, a role that perfectly blended her heart for students with her passion for systems of support. “Schools are already a trusted space in the community. Using them as a hub for resources just makes sense,” she shares.
Amanda doesn’t just invest in others—she prioritizes her own growth, too. Wanting to stretch her leadership skills, she looked for a board she could serve on. CASA of Kent County felt like the right fit. She had learned of CASA during her foster care days, and had a previous connection with its executive director, Stephanie. The pieces fit together.
Now a board member and part of CASA’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee, Amanda helps guide the organization in making its team more reflective of the children they serve. The work feels purposeful – rooted in experience, intention, and heart.
Amanda didn’t land where she thought she would when she started out. But she believes every step—every detour—brought her here for a reason. “I can’t think of a better place to be,” she says.

“There’s a big difference between wishing for a better world and participating in one,” says Senator Winnie Brinks. It’s a belief she’s lived out over years of public service, a commitment that started long before she entered the Michigan Legislature.
