Following nearly two years of service to CASA of Kent County, our Administrative Coordinator, Melissa Ronquist, has retired. Please join us in thanking Melissa for her generous dedication to CASA and wishing her well in this new stage of her life!
At CASA, Melissa is well-known for her generous nature, adventurous spirit, and impressively green thumb. Melissa worked behind the scenes, ensuring that volunteer training, swearing-in ceremonies, and other program events went off without a hitch. The CASA staff is especially grateful to Melissa for her willingness to lend a helping hand, going out of her way to support her coworkers and CASA’s mission of advocacy whenever possible.
Reflecting on her time at CASA, Melissa shared:
“I truly believe in CASA’s mission and am thankful for the opportunity to contribute to it in a small way. Working for CASA the final two years of my career was a wonderful and fulfilling experience. It was the perfect way for me to end my professional employment. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting all the staff, volunteers, board members, and other friends of CASA, like-minded people who care about abused and neglected children. Thank you all for your contributions to CASA.”

For Chad Kirkpatrick, service has never been a pastime—it’s what guides every part of his life. As the VP of Operations at Broadway Grand Rapids, he calls his role his “dream job,” not for the title, but because nonprofit work feeds a part of him nothing else ever has. His commitment to community extends beyond his job, reflected in the many ways he invests his time in volunteer roles.
Music has always been part of Trudi Huizenga’s life. It shaped her career, her outlook, and—perhaps most importantly—her service to others.
Patty Sabin’s journey into advocacy began long before she ever volunteered with CASA. It started at home, helping her two children navigate school with their own unique learning styles. Supporting them through those challenging years taught her how to speak up, ask questions, and persist—skills that would become the foundation of her life’s work.
